The Ensemble Cast of ‘One Piece’ in Live Action and Anime

The portrayal of Captain Luffy and pirate hunter Zoro in the live-action adaptation of “One Piece” has been lauded for its fidelity to the original source material.

“One Piece,” adapted from Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling manga of all time (with over 500 million copies sold), revolves around the quest for the One Piece treasure by the Straw Hat Pirates. The series has topped Netflix viewership charts in 84 countries and territories during its debut weekend, surpassing the records held by “Stranger Things 4” (2022) and “Wednesday” (2022) in 83 countries.

Monkey D. Luffy

Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, dreams of finding the world’s greatest treasure, One Piece, and becoming the Pirate King. As a child, he accidentally consumed a devil fruit, granting him the ability to stretch his body like rubber. Luffy is vivacious, optimistic, and kind-hearted. Iñaki Godoy breathes life into Luffy’s character, capturing his exuberance and playfulness, creating a joyful atmosphere.

Born in 2003, Iñaki Godoy is a Mexican actor who has appeared in productions like “The Imperfects” (2022) and “MexZombies” (2022).

Roronoa Zoro

Zoro is a pirate hunter who wields three swords in combat and aspires to become the world’s greatest swordsman. Though reserved and stoic, Zoro is a loyal friend. Arata Mackenyu’s portrayal of Zoro is admired for his striking good looks and cool demeanor. The actor performs most of his own stunts.

Born in 1996, Arata Mackenyu is a Japanese actor from Los Angeles, known for his roles in “Knights of the Zodiac” (2023), the “Rurouni Kenshin” series, “Over Drive” (2018), and “Pacific Rim” (2018).

Nami

Nami is a thief and the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates. Since childhood, she has dreamed of drawing a map of the world. Emily Rudd’s portrayal of Nami is introspective, capturing the strength and sensitivity of her character. Producer Matt Owens describes Nami as the big sister of the group.

Born in 1993, Emily Rudd is an American actress known for playing Cindy Berman in the “Fear Street” horror trilogy.

Sanji

Sanji is the cook at the Baratie restaurant, working under head chef Zeff, and dreams of finding the All Blue sea. He frequently flirts with Nami and teases Zoro, adding humor to the series. Taz Skylar brings Sanji’s mischievous and charming nature to life, impressing with his fighting skills. He trained in taekwondo, mixed martial arts, and cooking under chef Jamie Oliver for four months before filming. Producer Maeda noted Skylar’s kind heart, which they wanted to incorporate into Sanji’s character.

Born in 1995, Taz Skylar is a British-Spanish actor and screenwriter. After the success of his West-end play, he continued writing and starred in “Gassed Up” (premiering on October 10) on Amazon Prime.

Usopp

Usopp is a sharpshooter with storytelling skills that uplift everyone’s spirits. Jacob Gibson’s portrayal of Usopp brings laughter through his playful and boastful nature.

Born in 1996, Jacob Gibson is an American actor of Jamaican descent, known for his appearances in “Rap Sh!t,” “Greenleaf,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Koby

Koby is rescued by Luffy from Captain Alvida’s pirate crew and is one of the first characters Luffy meets on his journey. He is shy, intelligent, and decides to join the Navy to catch pirates. Morgan Davies captures Koby’s blend of awkwardness and cleverness.

Born in 2001, Morgan Davies is an Australian actor with roles in “Evil Dead Rise” (2023) and “Beautiful They” (2021).

Vice Admiral Garp

In the first season, Garp leads the Navy’s efforts to capture the Straw Hat Pirates. Vincent Regan embodies Garp’s commanding and formidable presence.

Born in 1965, Vincent Regan is a Welsh actor known for roles in “300” (2006), “Troy” (2004), “Clash of the Titans” (2010), and “Lockout” (2012).

Shanks

Shanks is the captain of the Red-Haired Pirates and inspires Luffy to become the Pirate King. Despite not being related by blood, Shanks and Luffy share a familial bond. Peter Gadiot portrays Shanks with maturity and calmness.

Buggy the Clown

Buggy is an antagonist who consumed a devil fruit, giving him the power to disassemble and control his body parts at will. Jeff Ward embodies the clown’s manic, impulsive, and stubborn nature.

Born in 1986, Jeff Ward is an American actor renowned for his role as Deke Shaw in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Arlong

McKinley Belcher III portrays the villain Arlong, the Fish-Man pirate captain known for his ruthlessness and cunning, often exploiting and killing people.

Born in 1984, McKinley Belcher III is an American actor known for “Mercy Street” and “The Passage.”

Dracule Mihawk

Mihawk is the world’s greatest swordsman and a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, an alliance of powerful pirates with the world government. Steven Ward leaves a lasting impression with his portrayal of the dangerous Mihawk.
